My name is Bryna Sampey. My passion for birth begins with a deep love of the transformation from woman to mother. There is no more beautiful event in the world.

I became interested in Doula-ship after the birth of my daughter. What a difference a Doula would have made! I wasn't able to afford a Doula then, and decided to make sure that any woman who wants a Doula can have one.

I am also in training to be a Lactation Consultant. I have recently finished my training as a Certified Lactation Counselor, which is not the same, but it is a stepping stone on the pathway. I'm apprenticing with Sonja Massey, RN, IBCLC to reach my goals. She's been kind enough to show me the way!

Eventually, I'd like to be a Nurse-Midwife, delivering babies in hospitals and homes around the world, but for now, I feel it's important to see birth through the mother's eyes, and be an emotional support person in the delivery process, rather than medical support.

 I'm in process of certification through Doulas of North America (DONA) to become a certified Doula, but I am already attending births, having completed two very comprehensive training intensives.

Update, Fall 2008:

After long deliberation, I've decided to join my husband in the Pacific Northwest. I still remain a member in spirit of the doula circle, though I am practicing in the Northwest on my own.
